The Adult Basic Education and Training Programme consists of 2 elements.
The first is the development of modules for Grades 1 to Grades 9 (Levels 1 4) in the learning areas of Language and Communication, Numeracy and Functional Mathematics, Applied Agriculture, Agricultural Technology, Food and Textile Technology and Management and Entrepreneurship. All the modules for Levels 1 4 (94 modules) are now available in English and Zulu.
The second element is the implementation of the Programme at various learning centres. In the ACAT centres at Emnambithi and Umzumbe there is an average of 13 learners per centre many of whom are working through ABET modules at levels 1 and 2. Most of the learners are members of G5 groups of the EDP and are involved in micro-enterprises.
ACAT's ABET material is available to other learning institutions and we estimate that over 10 000 learners benefit from the use of them.
A full list of titles is available email acat@pixie.co.za to request the titles and a price list.
