EDP works with a total of 587 "Groups of 5's" (entrepreneurial groups of 5 people) involving 2935 entrepreneurs selected by the community as being poor.

Two members from each of the new G5's formed this year (that is 209 members) have attended Orientation Training at the ACAT Centre at Lidgetton which involves training in business skills, capacity building, HIV/Aids and the causes of poverty.

All entrepreneurs are encouraged to start a small, four-door size vegetable producing garden near their home. So far, a total of 2904 vegetable gardens have been established.

The total loaned out to entrepreneurs during this financial year is R193.650. Their enterprises included hairdressing, tuck-shops, hawking, upholstery, welding, shoe/sales, handcraft, poultry, sewing, and small farming.

The total loaned out since the programme started is R1 326.268.

85% of the loans have been repaid.
